Yes! I feel that in society at large, we have lost our ability to be responsible when we stopped being citizens and became consumers. I found that even when I was teaching at uni: many of the students saw themselves as "clients", expecting to be passively fed morsels of knowledge rather than actively seeking out understanding and wisdome.

Sometimes I'd like to be free of responsibility.

JMB, I am sure many of us would. But if we are not responsible for ourselves, our actions, then someone else will be. I like the idea of that very much less than I like that of being free of responsibility.

Chervil, Exactly. Passive recipients of things, other people to blame even for their own carelessness.

But my overall thought is that if people give up responsibility they will not long be free, or deserve to be.
